This summer, we're all about making space in your work life for those things YOU consider a priority. So we've asked our University of Graz researcher community about aspects of their daily work life that they have developed a useful routine for - and aspects that still need a “research life hack”.
Interview partner:
- Rafael Schögler, Institut für Theoretische und Angewandte Translationswissenschaft
Rafael Schögler's daily work:
“I am Associate Professor at the Department of Translation Studies and co-spokesperson of the Forum for Democracy Research at the University of Graz. In my research, I explore how translation influences social change and how political, cultural, economic and technological transformations reshape our understanding of translation."
The "happy hack" that makes Rafael more efficient/creative/motivated at work:
"For me, staying creative is crucial for remaining motivated in my work, and it is a core part of my identity as a scholar. I regularly collaborate with scholars from other disciplines. This allows me to question my assumptions, conceptual biases and methods, and to discover new heuristics while immersing myself in new fields and their fascinating questions. I always remain curious!"
And the challenge in his research life that he still needs a hack for:
“Saying no, even if the project is fascinating."
What is your own happy hack? Let us know!
