Planning to apply for a professorship? Training to prepare for the appointment process

Description: Do you want to apply for a professorship soon? Then this workshop is a systematic preparation for the application process for professorships at universities.  Depending on your interests, different academic systems can be focused on: in addition to the German-speaking countries, large parts of the EU as well as the UK, the US and Canada.

Participants receive specific information about the frame conditions, the procedure from start to finish, and individual elements of the appointment process as well as tips on how to optimally prepare for the application process and present application documents. In addition, central elements of the procedure such as the interview with the appointment committee and negotiations will be practiced in training situations.

Goals: Participants

• are familiar with the underlying conditions, individual elements and possible variations in appointment procedures in different academic systems.
• know how to thoroughly prepare for an application and optimise their application documents.
• know how to present their strengths convincingly to the committee and have developed argumentation strategies for dealing with critical questions.
• can prepare for employment negotiations in a targeted manner.

Schedule: Mon & Tue, morning: workshop, afternoon; individual coachings on demand

A joint workshop will take place each morning from 9:00 to 12:30. In addition, all participants can take advantage of a 45-minute individual coaching session to explore individual questions in greater depth – either directly on one of the two afternoons on site or online at a later date. A later appointment is usually recommended if, for example, you would like feedback on revised application documents or concepts to be submitted, or if you would like to prepare for a specific application.

Preparation: To tailor the event as closely as possible to the target group, participants' expectations and prior knowledge are assessed approximately two weeks in advance using a short questionnaire.

Language: English or German, depending on the participants' needs. The documents are available in English and German.
