Abstract
As a researcher thinking about career moves beyond academia, it can be difficult to name and translate your skills for jobs in other sectors — although researchers develop a variety of strengths that are highly valued across industry, public institutions, and elsewhere.
In this interactive workshop, you will explore your transferable skills, gain insight into the skills required in different career paths, and learn practical methods to translate your academic experience into language suitable for job applications and conversations. Through individual reflection, peer discussion, and hands-on exercises, you will:
- Identify and articulate key transferable skills from your academic journey
- Discover approaches to translate or further develop your skills
- Learn the basics of CV writing to know where and how to position your skills effectively
- Practice confidently communicating your strengths in job interviews
Please note: To help you to get the most out of our time together, a short preparation exercise will be sent to you in advance as a part of the workshop.
