Effective Peer Exchange in Research: Tools and Methods
Target group: all researchers with a PhD; PhD candidates after their third year
Language: English
Description: This is a yearly workshop intended to foster connections and build competences in structured peer exchange. Many researchers face similar challenges, but often feel they have to navigate them alone. Peer groups – regular, self-organised meetings of researchers at similar career stages – can offer mutual support, professional growth and fresh perspectives. This interactive workshop will introduce effective tools for peer coaching and collegial development, whether you are planning to initiate a new group or to refine an existing one.
Participants will explore methods for structuring meetings, fostering constructive communication, and using solution-focused questions. A key element is the Collegial Counselling method, which enables mutual support through a structured exchange. With practical exercises and space for reflection, the workshop offers inspiration and concrete ideas for sustainable and solution-oriented peer exchange.
About the trainer: Dr. Yasmin Dolak-Struss is an experienced trainer and systemic coach specializing in career development for researchers. She studied technical physics and holds a doctorate in biomathematics. After several years in research and a subsequent career in a large research funding organization, where she trained and advised international researchers, she started her own business. Today, she supports researchers in strengthening their skill set and developing successful and meaningful careers both within and outside academia.
